Parametric pumping separation
The example presents separation of a binary mixture.
The operation consists in pumping of the mixture through the bed alternatively from the bottom reservoir to the top and from the top reservoir to the bottom. Temperature of the ion exchanger is changed simultaneously with the flow direction.
One of ions is concentrated preferentially in the top reservoir and the other in the bottom reservoir.
The driving force is difference in temperature-induced changes of the selectivity to different ions.
Side-positions of the reservoirs have no special meaning. This unusual representation has been adopted solely in order to fit the model in area of a small screen.
